Welcome to our Charger Section This is the heart of your electric modelling system. Most modern chargers today use a negative peak detection system to determine the level of the batteries. These chargers are connected directly to a 12V car battery or a desktop power supply available from your local electronics store. The next level of battery charger uses computer technologies and features an LCD screen to monitor the charge/discharge process. I recommend that if your budget can stretch to the Graupner Ultramat 25, its well worth the extra money. Fully computerised, the Ultramat can charge 1-25 cells in nicad and NiMH as well as 2-24V in lead acid batteries, all from a 12V battery or power supply. I use one of these beauties myself and have been impressed with its abilities to charge a pack in as little as 15 mins. The added advantage is that I also use it to charge my transmitter, flight packs, camera nicads and just about every battery I own including my electric scooter and bike! The latest electric model technology is the Lithium Polymer battery. This has proved very popular with electric models achieving flights in excess of 30 minutes. Chargers that work with this type of battery chemistry is the simple AERO Lithium Ion battery charger to the more elaborate SHULTZ range.
